How to Give Thanks… To Yourself

Time flies, doesn’t it?

I am always amazed by how quickly the summer ends, fall arrives, and the time comes again to give thanks.

The old turkey baster makes its way out of the drawer. Planes, trains, and automobiles are filled with hungry family and friends.

We come together to celebrate with each other.

There is so much to be grateful for: our health, our wins, our lessons from our losses, our families, and the love that is reborn from these special gatherings.

But, there is always someone we fail to thank…

Ourselves.

Not the CEO or professional leader. Not the dad or mom.

I mean that inner you. The child inside.

That child is filled with hopes and dreams. That child gets frustrated when things don’t go their way. That child carries all the stress. That child may be stuck in the past at times.

Yup, that young you is always looking for something.

Gratitude.

This year try doing something radically different…

Spend time with your inner child and shower them with gratitude.

That’s the younger me. I appreciate you. Follow me on Twitter at “@jbelizaireCEO”

Here is how:

1 — find an old photo of yourself

2 — recall your fondest memories

3 — recall your darkest memories

4 — write down 2 and 3

5 — take a deep breath and relive those experiences.

6 — draw a path from those experiences to your current self.

Consider for a moment that everything you are grateful for today started with the person in that photograph.

Give the child a hug. Say, “thank you for all you’ve given me. I appreciate you.”

I guarantee you’ll see things differently from here on in.

Gratitude

It has to start from within.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

John
